The security was increased starting with the Catalina OS release and applications now can't be run at all unless one of these criteria are fulfilled.

Introduced in the Mountain Lion Mac OS release, this made it difficult to run applications that had either not been downloaded from the App Store or were not signed with an Apple Developer ID.

This is all part of a security feature called 'Gatekeeper'. It is also important that the option allowing apps from 'identified developers' be selected. Alternatively, open 'Security & Privacy' in 'System Preferences' and there should be a message relating to the OT having been blocked - select 'Open Anyway'. The easiest solution here is to right-click on the application and choose 'Open' - this will then allow the OT to be run after a confirmation. On Macs, a message might be displayed saying that the OT or the Installer was prevented from running. I can't run the OT or the Installer on my Mac Expanding that window should solve the problem. Important: If the OT starts but you are not able to see the main OT window on your screen, it may be that a “zero size” window was opened in a corner of your screen.
Java for mac 10.7.3 install#
In such cases, we recommend you to download the AlmaOT.tgz tarball (without the Java Runtime Environment, or JRE for short) and to install your own version of Java 11 JRE independently (see “How do I install Java on a Mac?” below, for more information). On Macs with Catalina/Big Sur/Monterey OSs, the Apple security mechanism will prohibit the use of the bundled JRE. The tarball distributions for Cycle 9 are available that include a copy of Java, but if you really wish to use your own installation of Java 11, then a tarball version is available without its own Java. Among other improvements, this allows the user to easily set the amount of memory that can be used by the application. We recommend that you use the new OT Installer when running the Cycle 9 OT. Should I install the tarball version of the OT? A tarball distribution without Java is available and if this is used, a version of Java 11 must be installed on your computer. The Cycle 9 OT requires Java 11, but we recommend that you install a version of the OT (using the OT Installer or the tarball) that does with its own version of Java. If so, which version of Java should I install? Do I need to install Java?įor the OT that will be used in Cycle 9, no, you do not need to install Java as the OT will come with its own copy of Java 11. Please note that the following advice assumes that the user is running an up-to-date version of the OT. If you have any further questions or discover a new bug, please contact us via the ALMA Helpdesk. On this page we provide help for a number of common problems encountered with the OT.
